Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition affecting at least one in ten Canadian women, causing significant pain, gastrointestinal symptoms, urinary symptoms and infertility. A diagnosis previously took over five years because available TIER-2 imaging (ultrasound and MRI) were known to miss early stage disease and Tier-3 surgical laparoscopic diagnostic testing (still the gold standard for a definitive diagnosis) is highly invasive and requires operating-room resources. Long waits for specialist consultations, imaging, and surgery can mean years managing symptoms before receiving a clear diagnosis and coordinated care. With TIER-1 ENDOSURE test a highly accurate endometriosis diagnosis is now available in under an hour for any aged female-born patient.

The TIER-1 ENDOSURE diagnostic test for endometriosis is a non-invasive, 30-minute test that uses a technology called electroviscerography (EVG) to record gastrointestinal myoelectrical activity (GIMA). The system analyzes these signals and detects the GIMA biomarker for endometriosis, a distinguishing characteristic pattern of abdominal electrical activity associated uniquely with endometriosis and adenomyosis.

Think of electroviscerography like an electrocardiogram (ECG), but for the gut. During your visit, small sensors are placed on your abdomen. You come in fasting and a 10 minute baseline GIMA reading is taken. Then you drink water; the trigger for paristalsis. The EVG device then records GIMA activity for 30-minutes while you take a nap, after which your ENDOSURE result is generated in 4 seconds with no scopes, no internal exams, and no tissue samples required.

ENDOSURE is a private diagnostic test in Canada, and your insurance provider may cover it as an eligible diagnostic service. Coverage is already available under select Blue Cross extended health care plans, including fertility and family planning benefits and personal & health spending accounts (HSAs); however, coverage requirements, reimbursement limits, and referral criteria vary by plan. Patients should review their benefits and contact their insurance provider to confirm eligibility and determine whether a healthcare provider referral or letter of support is required before scheduling the test. The Endo Health Collective’s referral form may be used when referral documentation is required. Because ENDOSURE may not be appropriate for everyone, speak with your healthcare team to determine whether testing is suitable for you.
